About counselling and psychotherapy
Counselling or psychotherapy offers you the chance to take some space and time for yourself, to work on an emotional problem which is bothering you or explore difficult life issues.
I offer a confidential service, giving you the chance to be open and honest about how you may be feeling.
In over ten years experience as a therapist I have worked with many different issues. You may want to work on anxiety, depression, relationships, personal development, bereavement, your work, or more fundamentally on how you feel about yourself. Some people prefer to choose a particular issue to focus on for a short time and work in quite a focussed way on that one thing. Others may feel they want to work on issues which are deeply rooted with in themselves and the work may be for longer. The range could be anything from a few weeks to several years - you decide.
Usually sessions would be once a week, lasting 50 minutes. My fees are £40 to £45 per session.
I qualified with a diploma in Counselling in 1994. Since then I have added qualifications in time-limited therapy and counselling supervision. In 2000 I spent a year on a course looking at working with gender issues, ethnicity and difference, with a focus especially on women. I have recently undertaken a training in somatisation, learning about those times when there are symptoms in the body which may be linked to how you are feeling.
Before becoming a therapist I worked for nearly 20 years in industry, giving me an insight into work-related issues and stresses.
My work is psychodynamic, which means that I base my approach on the acceptance that we are all products of our previous life experiences and that these may be affecting us now in ways which we may be unaware of.
My core philosophy is that everyone is unique and that we work together to uncover your own needs, hopes and aspirations in a supportive but non-directing way. I will not give advice but help you to find the best way through.
